10,000 participants from outside Belgium ride Tour of Flanders for cycling tourists

About 15,000 cyclists have on Saturday ridden the Tour of Flanders for cycling tourists, called ‘We Ride Flanders’. Among them 10,000 cyclists from outside Belgium. Two participants died of heart failure.
On Sunday, the professional cyclists ride the classic cycling race the Tour of Flanders, but today it was the cycling tourists' turn to test their legs on the same course. About 15,000 cycling enthusiasts started in Oudenaarde and Bruges this morning in the ‘We Ride Flanders’ event.
The cycling tourists could choose between different courses. Participants opting for 80, 128 or 158 km started in Oudenaarde. Those opting for the full course rode 229 km and left around 7 am in Bruges. The finish for all cyclists, as with the pro riders, was located on the Minderbroederstraat in Oudenaarde.
10,000 cyclists, so two out of three participants, came from outside Belgium. According to the organisers, cyclists from 67 different countries took part. Most of them came from the Netherlands, France, England and Germany.
Two participants died during the race, a Dutchman and a Frenchman. They died of heart failure despite quick help and resuscitation attempts. A third participant also became unwell but was taken to hospital and survived.
