20 people killed in Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities
At least 20 people were killed and 50 injured in Russian attacks on several Ukrainian cities on Monday, Interior minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed. Kryvyi Rih and Kyiv were hit especially hard and a major children’s hospital was damaged. Several people are still trapped under the rubble, according to president Volodymyr Zelensky.
Russian forces fired “more than 40 missiles”, Zelensky said. According to Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, at least seven people were killed in the capital. At least 10 people were killed in Kryvyi Rih and 31 injured. The condition of 10 of those is serious, military administration chief Oleksandr Vilkul said.
In Pokrovsk, not far from the eastern front in the Donetsk region, authorities reported three dead from an air strike. Dnipro, Slovyansk and Kramatorsk were also hit, Zelensky reported on Telegram. Three power stations were reportedly damaged or destroyed.
An unknown number of people are trapped under the rubble of the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv, according to Zelensky. “Right now, everyone is helping to clear the rubble – doctors and ordinary people,” he said, posting a video of the damaged building on X. “Russia cannot claim ignorance of where its missiles are flying and must be held fully accountable for all its crimes.”
Zelensky is visiting Warsaw on Monday before travelling to Washington for the NATO summit.
