2,500 tractors gather in Brussels to protest Flemish agricultural policy

Around 2,500 tractors headed for Brussels on Friday morning to take action against the Flemish government's agricultural policy. The tractors have entered Brussels from all Flemish provinces under police escort via secondary roads and plan to start honking their horns en masse at 11.30 am.

"We expect to be in Brussels with around 3,000 tractors in total," said the Farmers' Union spokesman. "For now, everything is running smoothly and there have been no incidents yet, thanks to the good cooperation of our stewards and the police forces."

According to the organisers, the aim is to gather at noon at the Havenlaan in Brussels. The farmers will leave Brussels between 2 pm and 2.30 pm. The protest is not causing any disruption on the highways, but traffic on local roads is greatly slowed down.
