28 drinks win gold at 20th Best Belgian Wine competition
28 Belgian wines were awarded gold medals at the 20th edition of the Best Belgian Wine competition, organised by the Association of Flemish Sommeliers (VVS). The awards were given after a tasting event on Wednesday at Hotelschool Ter Groene Poorte in Bruges.
Since its inception in 2005, the competition has grown into a benchmark for the Belgian wine-growing sector. “Professional tasters and strict discretion guarantee the objectivity and quality of the competition,” said the VVS.
This year's edition saw participation from more than 272 wines representing 77 domains across Belgium. Hosted by Hotelschool Ter Groene Poorte since 2011, the competition attracted 64 sommeliers and wine experts who gathered to assess the wines with a discerning palate.
Out of the 83 wines recognised this year, 28 earned gold medals, alongside 27 silver and 27 bronze.
