32,000 people march in Brussels calling for Gaza ceasefire

Around 32,000 people marched through Brussels on Sunday afternoon to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, according to an official police count.

The protesters are also asking the Belgian government to work towards a full international military embargo against Israel. The event was organised by a group of civil society organisations.

"The European Union is being looked at, but that does not take away from the fact that Belgium can take responsibility, or take the lead," Ludo De Brabander of Vrede, one of the organisers of the march, told VRT. "Belgium has still not recognised Palestine as a state, as Spain and Ireland have already done."

More than 41,000 people have been killed in Gaza since Hamas' terror attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 and the subsequent Israeli offensive, which has since spread to neighbouring Lebanon.
