Airbus posts profit of more than 4 billion euros

Airbus made a net profit of 4.2 billion euros last year, up 12 per cent thanks to strong demand for its aircraft, the company said on Thursday.
Thanks to solid demand for its products and services, the European aerospace group "delivered on our 2024 guidance in a testing year for Airbus," CEO Guillaume Faury said in a press release. Sales rose 6 per cent to 69.2 billion euros.
Last year, Airbus delivered 766 commercial aircraft, of which 602 were A320 Family aircraft. Airbus aims to increase deliveries to 820 this year. At the end of last year, the order backlog stood at 8,658 aircraft.
Defence and space
The order book for the defence and space division reached a record 15.7 billion euros, thanks in part to a Spanish order for an additional 25 Eurofighter jets. The division had struggled in recent years due to reduced demand for its telecommunications satellites. In 2024, the division will take write-downs of 1.3 billion euros. 2,000 jobs are at risk.
Airbus expects an adjusted operating profit of around 7 billion euros in 20205
For 2025, Airbus expects an adjusted operating profit of around 7 billion euros, compared to 5.4 billion euros in 2024. These forecasts are based on the assumption that there will be no new disruptions to global trade and aviation. Potential import tariffs are also not taken into account.
Losses for rival Boeing
Airbus' figures are in stark contrast to those of its main American rival, Boeing, which has been struggling for several years due to production quality problems. Last year it also suffered a long strike at two major plants.
Boeing lost 11.8 billion dollars last year, its sixth annual loss in a row. It delivered only 348 commercial aircraft, also falling behind Airbus for the sixth year in a row.
