Angèle and Metejoor: Big winners of the Belgian Music Industry Awards (MIA's)
Belgian music artists Angèle (26) and Metejoor (31) are the big winners of the Music Industry Awards (MIA’s). They each took home three awards on Saturday evening.
Singer-songwriter Angèle won in the categories 'Pop' and 'Solo woman', and 'Fever', her duet with Dua Lipa, became the ‘Song of the year 2021'. She has collected eleven MIA's over the years.
Pop singer Metejoor was the crowd favorite in categories 'Breakthrough', 'Dutch speaking' and 'Solo man’.
Due to the corona crisis, the Flemish music industry was unable to present its awards last year. Hence why there was a double edition of the MIA’s in the Brussels Palace 12 last night. 'Song of the year 2020’ went to Belgian DJ Regi feat. Jake Reese & OT with "Come Closer”.
Indie band Bazart received a MIA in the categorie 'Group' for the fourth time, while Balthazar scored the award for ‘Alternative’. Soulsister, the pop band led by Paul Michiels and Jan Leyers, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for their musical career. They received the award from Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
During the live show, tribute was paid to Belgian singer Arno, who passed away last week. The late singer received a spontaneous standing ovation from the public.
