Antwerp win Pro League title on roller-coaster final day
Royal Antwerp have won the Pro League title with a dramatic late equaliser against KRC Genk on the final day of the football season.
In a thrilling end to the season, all three contenders Antwerp, Genk and Royal Union Saint-Gilloise topped the table at one point during the day. With 10 minutes left to play, Union were winning at home to reigning champions Club Brugge while Antwerp were losing at Genk, leaving Union in touching distance of the championship. But three late goals from Club and a 94th-minute equaliser by veteran Toby Alderweireld saw Antwerp snatch the title in dramatic fashion.
This is Antwerp's fifth league title, and their first since 1957. They won the Belgian Cup earlier in the season, beating Mechelen in the final.
