Audi Jobday draws 6,000 job seekers to Brussels

Around 6,000 jobseekers registered for Audi Jobday, a job fair aimed at helping workers affected by the closure of Audi’s Brussels factory. Belgium's regional employment services, which organised the event, called it a "great success".
Audi shut down its Brussels plant in February, leaving around 3,000 employees without work. Many attendees at Thursday’s fair were former Audi workers or subcontractors, though the event was also open to other job seekers.
"This is an important day for job seekers and employers," said outgoing Brussels minister for Employment Bernard Clerfayt. "The closure of Audi Brussels has had a major impact on the employees of the factory, with significant consequences for the industrial fabric of Brussels."
Range of employers
The employment services of Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders have been called in to help the former Audi employees find jobs, as the Brussels plant employed people from all three regions. Audi employees are sought-after workers with technical expertise, know-how and years of experience, the services said.
The fair brought together a wide range of employers, from major employers like Brussels Airlines, the ministry of Defence, Colruyt, and Delhaize to smaller firms such as Safran Aircraft Engine Services Brussels and Vivaqua, the Brussels water company.
