Bart De Wever to stay on as formateur, expected back at the Palace Thursday

N-VA chairman Bart De Wever will remain the federal formateur for the time being. He reported to King Philippe on Monday regarding his task of forming a new federal government and is expected back at the Palace for an audience on Thursday evening. This was announced by the Palace on Monday afternoon.

Last night, De Wever sat down with negotiators from the N-VA, MR, Les Engagés, Vooruit and CD&V. On the table was a revised version of his "socio-economic super-memorandum" with proposals on the labour market, pensions and taxation. The group was unable to reach an agreement as some concessions to Vooruit's Socialists would have gone against the French-speaking liberals of the MR.

De Wever was, therefore, unable to report any major progress to King Philippe on Monday during a meeting which lasted about an hour. The King granted De Wever and additional three days to finish the assignment.
