Belgian fiction series 'Moresnet' selected for the official Canneséries competition
The Belgian fiction series 'Moresnet' has been selected for the Official Competition of Canneséries, the international series festival in Cannes, France, from April 5th to 10th.
The mystery thriller was created by Frank Van Passel, Jef Hoogmartens, and Jonas Van Geel, written by Jef Hoogmartens, and directed by Frank Van Passel. The international cast includes German actress Leonie Benesch, known for her role in the Oscar-nominated film 'The Teachers' Lounge'.
Time capsule
The story revolves around the main character, Ben, portrayed by Boris Van Severen. After his father's death, Ben returns to his hometown of Moresnet. Together with his childhood friends, he decides to unearth a time capsule they buried 22 years earlier.
In the capsule, they find Ben's brother's diary, which contains a list of names and the dates of death of his friends, with each of them set to die within ten days. In a race against time, Ben and Zoë try to avert their inevitable fate.
'Moresnet' will compete in the Official Competition against series such as the Danish 'Dark Horse', the Brazilian 'Living On a Razor's Edge', and the Chinese 'To the Wonder'. In 2022, the fiction series '1985' also made it to the Official Competition of Canneséries. The fiction series is set to premiere in Belgium on Streamz and in Germany on ZDF Neo in the fall of 2024.
