Belgian film 'Reflet dans un diamant mort' could win Golden Bear at Berlinale
The French-language Belgian film Reflet dans un diamant mort is part of the official programme of the 75th Berlinale and has a chance to win a Silver or Golden Bear, Wallonie Bruxelles Images announced on Tuesday.
Reflet dans un diamant mort is the fourth feature film by Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani. It tells the story of John D, an elderly man who is confronted with his past as a spy on the French Riviera in the 1960s. The cast includes Fabio Testi, Yannick Renier, Koen De Bouw and Maria de Medeiros.
It has been 18 years since a French-language Belgian film had a chance of winning the Golden Bear. Last year, Flemish director Tim Mielants' Small Things Like These competed at the Berlinale. The film, starring Cillian Murphy, even opened the festival.
Many Belgian candidates
Another French-language Belgian co-production, On vous croit by Arnaud Dufeys and Charlotte Devillers, is included in the new Perspectives section dedicated to debut films.
Two short films have been selected in the Young Audience categories: Autokar by Sylwia Szkiladz in the Generation Kplus section - for children aged six and over - and Sous ma fenêtre, la boue by Violette Delvoye, selected in the Generation 14plus section, for teenagers.
In addition, the documentary Les cicatrices d'un putsch by Brussels-based filmmaker Nathalie Borgers has been selected as part of the 2025 Forum Special. The film deals with the 1980 military coup in Turkey.
Earlier, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund announced that Têtes brûlées, the feature film debut of director and actor Maja-Ajmia Zellama, has been included in the Generation 14plus section. The German-Belgian-Polish co-production Köln 75 will make its world premiere at the festival.
The 75th edition of the Berlinale takes place from 13 to 23 February. The full programme will be published on 4 February.
