With an average of 28.5 days’ holiday, Belgians enjoyed slightly more annual leave this year, according to Jobat’s survey. The number has been hovering around 28 for years. Men have slightly more holiday days on average than women: 28.73 and 28.05 days per year respectively. This is largely due to the fact that more women work part-time.
Furthermore, older workers have more holidays than their younger colleagues: 18- to 25-year-olds, have an average of 25.65 days off, while 46- to 55-year-olds have 29.54. Traditionally, people who work in larger companies enjoy more holiday days than employees in a small company. Those working in a company with fewer than 10 employees get 23.20 days’ holiday. In companies with more than 1,000 employees, it is 31.76.
When looking at the number of days’ holiday by sector, teachers have the most days off: 41.12 days a year on average; in 2020 it was 44. By comparison, employees in the hospitality industry are on average only entitled to 21.71 days a year, fewer than two days on top of the legal minimum of 20 days a year for those working a five-day week.
