Belgian military aid to Ukraine has risen to 1 billion euros
Belgium's military support to Ukraine has risen to 1 billion euros since the start of the war. Defence minister Ludivine Dedonder (PS) said this on Wednesday in the competent parliamentary committee.
The federal government has approved 25 military aid packages so far, the most recent of which was last Friday with the release of 100 million euros for the maintenance of the F-16 fighter planes used by the international coalition supporting Ukraine.
The military aid released since 24 February, 2022 includes supplies, fuel and industrial purchases. The support provided is coordinated with the coalition supporting Ukraine to ensure that aid is complementary and tailored as best as possible to the needs of Ukrainians.
"The Belgian Defence will in any case continue to respond to Ukraine's requests, either through donations from its reserves or through the use of our industry. And general defence support to the Ukrainian armed forces will continue as long as necessary," said Dedonder, who responded to questions from Denis Ducarme (MR), Georges Dallemagne (Les Engagés), Tim Vandenput (Open VLD) and Theo Francken (N-VA).
