Belgian music sales grew by 10.5 per cent last year

Music sales in Belgium increased by 10.5 per cent in 2024, reaching a total of 116 million euros, according to the Belgian Recorded Music Association (BRMA), which represents music producers and distributors in the country. While streaming remains dominant, vinyl sales have seen a downturn.
Digital formats now account for 88 per cent of total music sales, including downloads and streams. Revenue from digital music rose by 14.6 per cent to 102.2 million euros. For the first time, streaming surpassed the 100 million euro mark, cementing its status as the key driver of growth in the sector.
Meanwhile, the physical music market continues to shrink, generating just 14 million euros - less than 12 per cent of total revenue. Although CD sales have been declining for some time, 2024 also saw a drop in vinyl sales, which fell by 6.5 per cent to 9.25 million euros.
Revised reporting
The BRMA, with the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, has improved Belgium’s music market reporting. The organisation introduced “economically weighted, chart-based coverage rates for digital formats” to enhance accuracy, according to the BRMA.
As a result, figures for 2023 have been revised: the total market value (physical and digital) was adjusted to 105 million euros, down from the previously reported 118 million euros.
