Belgian start-up Proxistore escalates legal battle with Google

Belgian start-up Proxistore, which specialises in online advertising and is embroiled in a commercial dispute with Google, has filed new complaints against the US tech giant and is taking the matter to the European Commission.
A Belgian court recently ordered Google to pay Proxistore 76 million euros after ruling that the company had unilaterally blocked several of Proxistore's advertising campaigns. The Commercial Court of Walloon Brabant then froze the amount in Google Europe's Irish bank account, where the company's European headquarters are based.
"It is unacceptable for a European country to obstruct a Belgian court ruling in this way"
However, despite a legal notice, the Irish Department of Justice has yet to respond, prompting Proxistore to escalate the issue at EU level. "It is unacceptable for a European country to obstruct a Belgian court ruling in this way, especially when we were already due a response," said Proxistore CEO Bruno Van Boucq.
In addition to its complaint to the European Commission, Proxistore is filing three other lawsuits against Google, including one for defamation after the company publicly claimed that Proxistore had failed to pay its invoices - an allegation Van Boucq strongly denies.
