Belgian tourist drowns in Thailand
The body of a 28-year-old Belgian who drowned while snorkelling has been found in south-western Thailand, the Foreign Affairs confirmed on Monday. Allan Luvovadio was a hairdresser and former pro footballer from the Charleroi area.
The Phuket News reported that Luvovadio was pulled out to sea by strong waves on Saturday at Freedom Beach, on the island of Phuket. A search operation was launched, but rescue efforts were hampered by bad weather. The region is currently experiencing storms caused by the annual monsoon, and five people have drowned on Phuket’s west coast in the past two weeks.
Luvovadio’s body was found on the beach at 4.30 on Monday morning. He played football for JS Tamines, a third division team from Namur, and previously played for KRC Gent, among others. A neighbour told local newspaper La Province that Luvovadio was a well-known and popular figure and had recently opened his own hair salon.
A British woman and a man from Yemen who were with him were both rescued from the water.
