Belgium hit by pro-Russian cyberattacks for third consecutive day
A new cyberattack targeted the websites of several Belgian municipalities for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) confirmed.
A pro-Russian hacker group called NoName057 claimed responsibility for the latest attack. They published a list of affected Belgian towns on their Telegram account on Wednesday morning.
The municipalities were hit by a DDoS attack, which overwhelms servers with massive amounts of traffic, rendering them unusable. The municipalities affected include Enghien, Comines-Warneton, Mouscron, Flobecq, Amblève, Colfontaine and Malmedy.
The CCB stressed that these attacks are not dangerous. Similar attacks, claimed by the same hacker group, were carried out on Monday and Tuesday against other city, port and government websites in Belgium.
