Belgium is final member state to propose EU commissioner
All EU member states except Belgium have now proposed candidate commissioners to the president of the next EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. A Belgian name should be known "soon".
Bulgaria and Italy waited until Friday's deadline to submit their nominations. Italy proposes present European Affairs minister Raffaele Fitto. In line with a request from Von der Leyen, Bulgaria nominated a woman and a man: Ekaterina Zaharieva and Julian Popov, both former ministers.
The Belgian candidate is likely to come from francophone liberal party MR. Current Justice commissioner Didier Reynders and federal Foreign minister Hadja Lahbib seem to be the prominent candidates.
