Belgium to adjust US travel advisory over LGBTQI+ concerns

Belgium’s foreign ministry will update its travel advice for the United States due to changing conditions for LGBTQI+ individuals. The decision follows similar moves by Germany, Denmark, and Finland.
The ministry and Belgian diplomatic missions in the US are closely monitoring the situation. The current travel advisory already highlights varying attitudes towards LGBTQI+ people across US states and refers travellers to the Human Rights Campaign for more details.
However, an update is in progress to reflect “tightened border controls” and growing challenges faced by transgender individuals and the broader LGBTQI+ community when travelling to the US.
The updated advisory will provide detailed information on the legal status of LGBTQI+ rights in different US states, including marriage equality, anti-discrimination protections, and social acceptance in urban and rural areas. The Belgian government stresses the importance of understanding these differences, as they can significantly impact travellers’ experiences.
Belgium is also coordinating with other EU member states to ensure consistency in travel guidance.
