Belgium to host second North Sea Summit
Belgium will host the second edition of the North Sea Summit in Ostend on 24 April. The meeting's aim is to "harness the full energy and industrial potential of the North Sea and make it the largest powerhouse of Europe", the organisers say.
Prime minister Alexander De Croo and energy minister Tinne Van der Straeten will host the summit. Also present will be the president of the European Commission and the energy commissioner, as well as the energy ministers of Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands and the UK.
A delegation of 100 business leaders and stakeholders from the energy sector and the nine participating countries are also invited to participate.
The first edition of the North Sea Summit was held in Esbjerg, Denmark, in 2022. The conference focused on the coordinated efforts between Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands to fight dependence on gas and fossil fuels and to quadruple their combined offshore power generation capacity to at least 150 GW by 2050
