Belgium's ski resorts begin to open as snow falls across the country
Snowy conditions mean that some of Belgium’s ski resorts in the east of the country have been able to open. Between 8 and 15 cm of snow has fallen, with local authorities saying roads in the area are accessible despite the weather.
The blue and green downhill runs at Ovifat, in Waimes, are open to skiers and snowboarders, the site managers announced on their Facebook page on Wednesday. A toboggan run is also open.
Three other winter sports centres are open: Losheimergraben in Bullange, where the 5 km, 8 km and 12 km runs are accessible and marked out, Weywertz ski club in Bütgenbach, with cross-country pistes from 2 km to 13 km and a toboggan run, and the 4 km and 11 km cross-country runs on Mont Spinette in Malmedy.
With snow expected to continue throughout Wednesday, other winter sports centres are likely to open.
