Belgium's women's hockey team qualify for Paris Olympics
For the first time since 2012, the Belgian women's hockey team has qualified for the Summer Olympics. Thanks to a 3-2 win over Great Britain, the Red Panthers booked their place at this summer's Olympic Games in Paris.
Goals from Barbara Nelen, Stephanie Vanden Borre and Justine Rasir earned Belgium a place in the final of the qualifying tournament, which awards places at the 2024 Paris Olympics to the top three teams. Belgium will take on Spain in the final on Saturday.
The Red Panthers, who finished runners-up at the last European Championship, failed to qualify for the 2016 and 2021 tournaments, losing on penalties both times. They finished 11th in their first and only appearance at London 2012, winning two and losing three matches during the group stage.
The Red Lions, Belgium's men's team, have yet to secure their Olympic ticket. The European runners-up will play the deciding semi-final against South Korea on Friday at 15.30 Belgian time.
