Brussels Open Monument day attracts 40.000 visitors

The Brussels Open Monument Days attracted 40,000 visitors last weekend, as reported by State Secretary for Town Planning and Heritage Pascal Smet. The theme this year was 'traces of colonisation'.

The big favourites were the House of Eetvelde, the Hotel de Knuyt de Vosmaer, the Lever House, the Brussels Stock Exchange, the Palace of Justice, the Former Cinema Hall Aegidium, the Devalck House and the Hotel Boël. For the first time, several embassies also opened their doors.

Various activities such as guided tours, walks, bicycle rides, exhibitions and treasure hunts were also on the programme. Particularly popular were the bus tours, which filled up well before the start.

Next year, a special edition dedicated to art nouveau will be organised.
