Brussels shooting: Suspect confirmed as shooter, minister reports
The suspect in Monday's shooting in Brussels has been confirmed as the gunman. He was shot on Tuesday morning following a police shootout, Interior minister Annelies Verlinden told Radio 1 on Tuesday morning. He is currently in critical condition in hospital.
A witness had seen the suspect in a café on or near Place Verboekhoven in Schaerbeek, close to a building searched by police on Monday night. When the police arrived, a shootout ensued, during which the man was shot, and one or more people were reportedly injured.
The automatic weapon used in the attack was also found at the same location.
Two Swedish people were killed in the attack on Monday evening. The suspected perpetrator subsequently distributed a video in which he claimed responsibility for the attack in the name of IS.
