Chipmaker Melexis to set up end-to-end manufacturing in China

Belgian chipmaker Melexis will work with a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer to assemble end-to-end products in China for the local market from 2026.
Melexis has been outsourcing parts of the chip manufacturing process to China for several years, such as semiconductor assembly and testing. Last year, the company signed partnerships with local companies for this purpose.
On Wednesday, the company announced that it was taking its China strategy a step further. "The idea is to work with local sales and application engineers to find the best possible solutions for Chinese customers," said communications director Tom Meynendonckx.
While research and development will remain in Europe, end-to-end manufacturing for Chinese customers will be transferred to Asian partners. In addition, a larger office for sales, marketing and technical support was opened in Shanghai in March.
Melexis is increasing its focus on China as the Asia-Pacific region accounts for 60 per cent of the company's global sales, with almost half of that coming from China. Melexis' semiconductors are mainly used in the automotive, healthcare and robotics industries.
