Coldplay and Lokerse Feesten mark start of busy August for Belgian music fans
Around 55,000 spectators enjoyed the first of four Coldplay concerts in the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. The iconic pop band shattered the ticket sale record of the venue back in 2021: never before did a group manage to sell out four concerts in a row. The remaining three will take place on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.
The show marked the start of another busy month for Belgian music fans. The performance of the British group was not the only highlight of Friday evening. A number of festivals kicked off the final month of the festival summer in Belgium.
Damian Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley, and Belgian rapper Zwangere Guy kicked off the Lokerse Feesten, a festival that takes place in the city of Lokeren. Up until August 14, the Flemish city will host a variety of internationally renowned artists, such as Kraftwerk, Kings of Leon, Judas Priest, and Black Eyed Peas. The organisers are expecting up to 10,000 visitors per day.
The city of Geel is preparing for the second day of Reggae Geel on Saturday. The festival will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Jamaica, the birthplace of reggae music. In addition to performances of some of the biggest reggae stars, several activities will be organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Jamaica.
With Dranouter, Ronquières, Dance D-Vision and WECANDANCE also taking place, Belgian music fans are spoiled for choice this weekend.
