Cooperative bank NewB opens first contact point in Brussels

NewB, the cooperative organisation that offers banking and insurance products, will open its first in-person contact point,on Thursday at the Ravenstein Gallery in Brussels. A representative will be available there during office hours to serve customers and members.

The contact point, called NewB Corner, will provide help concerning a whole of banking and insurance products. For banking products, NewB is collaborating with vdk bank, while insurance products come from French insurer Monceau.

Customers can also receive internet banking support there, and NewB plans to organise seminars and provide a meeting space for members. The contact point is effectively the cooperative's headquarters.

“It responds to our members' growing demand for personal, human contact,” the organisation said in a press release. “Our customers and members will enjoy local support there, thus strengthening trust and offering an even more responsive service tailored to their needs.”

An evaluation will take place in six to 12 months and NewB will consider setting up additional physical contact points, initially focusing on Wallonia.

NewB emerged in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, profiling itself as an ethical alternative to the big banks. However, obtaining a banking licence proved difficult and the company finally decided to partner with vdk bank. It currently has about 116,000 members.

The contact point is open on weekdays from 10.00-17.00, and until 18.00 on Tuesdays.
