DAZN acquires Belgian branch of sports broadcaster Eleven Sports
Global sports platform DAZN is acquiring the sports media business of Belgian broadcaster Eleven Group. The company reported this in a press release on Tuesday. Eleven Sports broadcasts Belgian football. The acquisition increases DAZN Group's revenue by some 300 million USD a year.
The deal expands DAZN's capabilities in live sports streaming and establishes DAZN as the world leader in this rapidly evolving market, the company states in its press release. The takeover deal makes DAZN the largest sports rights holder in Europe.
DAZN will henceforth be "the 'home' of the top leagues in Portugal and Belgium". "Eleven Group's operations also complement DAZN's existing market leadership position in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain, where DAZN holds the major domestic football rights", the statement reads. Eleven also operates in Taiwan and other Southeast Asian markets.
The deal is subject to anti-trust scrutiny. The completion date is therefore still unknown.
