DEME acquires Norwegian wind turbine installer

Belgian marine contractor DEME has reached an agreement to acquire Havfram, a Norwegian company that provides transport and installation services for offshore wind farms. The deal is worth around 900 million euros, DEME announced on Wednesday.

Havfram, based in the Norwegian capital Oslo, owns and operates vessels to install wind turbines. It is currently building two such vessels for next-generation turbines. These are already contracted as of the second half of 2026.

“Havfram already has an orderbook of approximately 600 million euros, and this includes support for the construction of some of the world’s largest offshore wind farms from 2026 to 2030,” DEME said in a press release. The Norwegian company has about fifty employees.

“DEME’s investment in Havfram underscores our unwavering belief in the immense potential of offshore wind infrastructure as a key element in the global energy transition"

The Belgian marine contractor speaks of a strategic acquisition. “It aligns with DEME's ambition to expand its footprint in the offshore wind energy market and enhances its competitive positioning in turbine and foundation installations,” stated the company.

“DEME’s investment in Havfram underscores our unwavering belief in the immense potential of offshore wind infrastructure as a key element in the global energy transition,” added DEME’s CEO Luc Vandenbulcke. “Havfram's state-of-the-art vessels are equipped to install the next generation of turbines and foundations, seamlessly integrating with DEME's existing fleet.”

DEME expects to complete the acquisition by the end of April. Havfram is currently still primarily owned by investment firm Sandbrook Capital and Canadian pension investor Public Sector Pension Investment Board.
