Domenico Tedesco set to lead Red Devils until at least 2026
Domenico Tedesco has extended his contract as head coach of the Red Devils until 2026. The announcement was made on Thursday at the squad presentation for the friendlies against Ireland and England.
Tedesco, 38, has been in charge of Belgium since February 2023. He took over from Roberto Martinez after a disappointing performance at the Qatar World Cup a few months earlier. Under Tedesco, the Belgians have gone unbeaten with eight wins and two draws to secure qualification for this summer's European Championship in Germany.
The former Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow and Leipzig boss had initially signed a contract until the summer of 2024. He will now be in charge until the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
"After several weeks of negotiations, we signed Domenico's contract extension yesterday," said Belgian Football Association CEO Piet Vandendriessche. "We are very happy and have great confidence in Domenico. It was a wonderful campaign leading up to the European Championship, without a defeat, and that confidence is reflected in a new contract."
"I have felt this trust from day one with my staff, and we want to reciprocate," Tedesco said. "For me, the most important thing is to have a good feeling, and that is there. It's about trust within the association and the team. That's why we decided to take this step. It's a clear signal to everyone."
The announcement was made following the unveiling of the European Championship kits at the Hergé Museum in Louvain-La-Neuve. As previously leaked, the away kit pays homage to the comic strip character Tintin, with a light blue shirt and brown shorts. The home kit features a dark red shirt.
