Elections 2024: PVDA leader to head electoral list in Liège, but to hold debates across Belgium
Raoul Hedebouw, leader of the far-left PVDA, will head his party's parliamentary list in the province of Liège for the elections on 9 June. This was announced on Thursday. Hedebouw will campaign throughout the country.
"I am a candidate in the Liège constituency. We will continue to fight there to increase our results," Hedebouw said in an announcement, "but I will also campaign throughout the country".
Hedebouw said he will debate with party leaders from the north and south of the country in both national languages. The Belgian Labour Party (PVDA/PTB) is Belgium's only national, united party.
Hedebouw, who has been leading the party since 2021, was first elected as an MP ten years ago and intends to stay that way. "In 2019, we have already sent some working women and workers to parliament. We want to expand this team to make the voice of the youth, the working class and all those who want to break with the current society even louder," he says.
Hedebouw says he will lead a diverse team of federal candidates, "including established names like Peter Mertens, Sofie Merckx, Nadia Moscufo and Nabil Boukili, but also new faces like Natalie Eggermont, Robin Tonniau, Farah Jacquet and Kemal Bilmez.
