Elise Mertens drops one place in WTA rankings, Zizou Bergs takes serious hit in new ATP rankings
A fortnight ago, both Mertens and Goffin failed to convince at the singles tournament at Wimbledon. Mertens also failed to reach the doubles final for the first time in four years.
Belgium’s Elise Mertens has dropped one place in the new WTA singles rankings, published on Monday. The tennis player is now no. 35 in the world. However, she is still ranked 4th in the world in doubles. Colleague Greet Minnen moved up two places to 78th. At the top of the rankings, little to nothing changed. Poland's Iga Swiatek is still the world number one, ahead of American Coco Gauff and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
In the men’s (ATP) rankings, Zizou Bergs took a serious hit. Belgium’s top player dropped 14 places and is now 87th in the world. David Goffin, the second Belgian in the rankings, remained no. 98. At the top of the ranking, nothing changed at all. Italian Jannik Sinner remains number one in the world, ahead of Serbian Novak Djokovic and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
