Elise Mertens wins double in WTA Finals and heads to Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow
Elise Mertens did not have much time last night to celebrate her doubles triumph with Russian Veronika Kudermetova at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, in the United States. An hour after her victory against the Czech tandem Barbora Krejcikova/Katerina Siniakova, the Belgian tennis player was already on her way to the airport. Mertens takes part in the Belgian selection on 8 November at the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow.
"With Ysaline (Bonaventure), Maryna (Zanevska) and Alison (Van Uytvanck), we have many good players who can shine in the Billie Jean King Cup", she praised the strength of her teammates.
"It's a team sport. I hope to get on the track on Wednesday, possibly in doubles, but Johan (Van Herck, the captain, ed.) is the one to decide. We'll see what he says," Mertens added.

The Belgian tennis player closed her 2022 season, in which she alternated highs and lows, so with a bang. "What I remember from this tournament is that we always believed in it. We always kept going and stayed positive. We were a real team. It's also a great lesson for young people: everything is possible," Mertens said.
"This title is certainly in my top five, in addition to my three grand slam victories. The best eight doubles duos were here. There is no higher level", concluded the tennis star.
