EU Commission team to travel to Ukraine for third anniversary of invasion

A top team of the European Commission will travel to Ukraine next week to mark the third anniversary of the Russian invasion on 24 February, announced a spokesman on Monday during the daily press briefing. European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen is currently in Paris to take part in a top-level summit initiated by French president Emmanuel Macron.
This will not be the first visit of the European Commission to Ukraine. In February 2023, president Ursula von der Leyen travelled to Kyiv with a large delegation of European commissioners for a meeting with the Ukrainian government. Von der Leyen herself has been to Ukraine eight times since the invasion.
Von der Leyen is currently in Paris to take part in a top-level summit initiated by French president Emmanuel Macron. In the run-up to the third anniversary of the invasion, diplomatic manoeuvres concerning the conflict have gained momentum.
The group of European leaders in Paris is trying to get everybody on the same page as US president Donald Trump seeks to quickly open negotiations with Russia to end the war. The Europeans are not invited for now, even though Washington seems to want to make them responsible for security guarantees for Ukraine.
