European Commission offers US zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods

The European Commission is offering the United States zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods, president Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday, in response to the huge increase in US import tariffs.
Von der Leyen said the European Union remained ready to negotiate a mutually beneficial solution with Washington. "We have offered zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods as we have successfully done with many other trading partners. Because Europe is always ready for a good deal. So we keep it on the table,” she said after a meeting with Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Store in Brussels.
US president Donald Trump's administration last week announced a dramatic increase in tariffs on goods imports from the rest of the world. The EU faces a 20 per cent increase as of Wednesday. The EU is still hoping to avert a trade war, but Von der Leyen reiterated on Monday that the EU was prepared to respond through countermeasures.
