European Indoor Athletics Championships: Belgian Tornados win European title
On Sunday, the Belgian Tornados won the 4x400 metres at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. Dylan Borlée, Alexander Doom, Kevin Borlée and Julien Watrin finished in 3:05.83, ahead of the French (3:06.52) and the Dutch (3:06.59).
Belgium was fourth after a 47.54 from start runner Dylan Borlée. Alexander Doom (46.51) moved up to second and Kevin Borlée (45.80) held on. Julien Watrin (45.98), who won the individual silver medal on Saturday, overtook Spain's David Garcia to take gold. The Spaniard had three first-place finishes but still dropped to fourth place.
This is the seventeenth international medal for the Tornados. They also won gold at the European Indoor Championships in 2015 and 2019 and won the World Indoor title last year. In Istanbul, they gave the Belgian delegation its fourth medal of honour, after gold and bronze for Nafissatou Thiam and Noor Vidts in the pentathlon and silver for Watrin in the 400 metres.
