European Parliament opens its doors for Multilingualism Day
Multilingualism Day kicks off in Brussels on Friday. Over the next two days, participants can go behind the scenes at the European Parliament, the most multilingual parliament in the world.
Every day, interpreters, translators and other multilingual staff work in the European Parliament to ensure that EU citizens can follow the work of their democratically elected representatives in all 24 official languages. Therefore, linguistic and cultural diversity is one of the EU's greatest assets, a core value enshrined in the EU's founding treaties.
During the two-day Multilingualism Day, participants will be able to see how this diversity works in practice. On Friday, interactive workshops will immerse participants in the world of interpretation and translation. On Saturday, the Visitor Centre in the Paul-Henri Spaak building will host a series of multilingual activities.
