European Short Track Championships: Hanne and Stijn Desmet European champions at 1000m

On Sunday, Hanne and Stijn Desmet both won the gold medal in the 1000m at the European Short Track Championships in Gdansk, Poland.

Hanne Desmet narrowly beat her Dutch training mate and defending champion Suzanne Schulting (1:32.514), the reigning Olympic champion in this event, in 1:32.443. Hungary's Petra Jaszapati completed the podium in 1:32.640.

A few minutes after his sister Hanne won the European title in the 1.000m, Stijn Desmet took the gold medal in the 1.000m final of the European Short Track Championships. Dutchman Jens van 't Wout took 2nd place. Turkey's Furkan Akar, 3rd, completed the podium.

On Saturday, both Hanne and Stijn Desmet took silver in the 1,500 metres at the European Championships.
