Evenepoel looks to forget disappointing Giro with Tour de Suisse
After his early exit in the Giro d'Italia in May, Remco Evenepoel revealed his plans for the coming months on Friday. The world champion will continue his season in the Tour de Suisse next week, his team Soudal-Quick-Step confirmed.
Evenepoel had to quit as leader in the general classification during the recent Giro after a positive Covid-19 test. After almost three weeks of silence, the Flemish cyclist has revealed his programme for the rest of the season, beginning with the Tour de Suisse from 11 to 18 June.
"I think starting in Switzerland is the perfect start"
Three days later, Evenepoel hopes to defend his Belgian time trial championship. He will also participate in the national road race championship. Afterwards, a two-week altitude training camp in Italy is scheduled, where he will prepare for the 2023 Cycling World Championships in Glasgow.
Evenepoel said it was "quite a challenge" to plot out the next stages of his season. "My main goal this year was the Giro and what happened was very unfortunate. So it was important to choose the right path with the team. I think starting in Switzerland is the perfect start. I get the chance to return to a race I have fond memories of after my time trial victory last year."
