Farmers to protest in Brussels again on Tuesday
Farmers will protest in Brussels on Tuesday for the third time this year, the farming organisations Via Campesina and Fugea announced on Friday. Fugea expects around 300 tractors to descend on the Belgian capital.
The farmers are planning a "symbolic action" near the European Commission at 10.30 on 26 March. The protest will start on Rue de la Loi, near the junction with Rue du Taciturne.
Via Campesina is a European organisation representing small and medium-sized farms, while Fugea is a Walloon agricultural organisation. The Walloon agricultural federations FJA and FWA will also take part.
While acknowledging that some progress has been made since the protests began, the farmers are still demanding a conclusive answer to their demands, including a fair wage for farmers and an end to free trade agreements.
Recent proposals from the European Commission are "insufficient" to address the root causes of farmers' protests across Europe, Via Campesina said.
