Federal police intercept container with 545kg of crystal meth
The federal judicial police (FJP) of Brussels have intercepted a container with 545kg of crystal meth. The find was reported by Het Belang van Limburg and confirmed by the Brussels public prosecutor's office. Two suspects were arrested in Genk and Brussels.
The Brussels worked with colleagues in Antwerp, Customs and Civil Protection during its investigation. That investigation eventually led to a coordinated operation on 18 July, which also involved the special units of the federal police, the FJP in Limburg and the local police zone CARMA.
In that operation, police intercepted a container coming from the US and destined for a Brussels company. During the search of the container, officers discovered an industrial magnet weighing several tonnes which contained more than 545kg of crystal meth, a powerful and highly addictive synthetic drug. This quantity is said to be one of the largest confiscations of crystal meth in Belgium. Two suspects were arrested in Genk and Brussels.
Methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth or ice, carries serious health risks. Besides serious addiction, one-time use of methamphetamine can cause problems such as agitation, anxiety, paranoia, an increase in body temperature, convulsions and abnormal heart rhythm.
