Cyclist Nathan Van Hooydonck in life-threatening condition after car crash
Flemish cyclist Nathan Van Hooydonck was taken to hospital in a critical condition after a car crash in Kalmthout on Tuesday morning. He reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving, causing him to lose control and hit four other cars on the road.
Van Hooydonck was resuscitated at the scene and then transferred to Antwerp University Hospital. His heavily pregnant wife, who was in the car with him, also had to be taken to hospital for tests. The passengers in the other cars suffered only minor injuries.
Van Hooydonck, 27, is a professional cyclist for Jumbo-Visma. He helped Jonas Vingegaard win his second consecutive Tour de France in July and represented Belgium in the road race at the World Championships in Glasgow. His most recent race was the final stage of the Tour of Britain on Sunday.
