Flemish workers positive about use of artificial intelligence

Flemish workers are positive about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace, according to research by the UGent@Work consortium. 65 per cent are satisfied with AI tools, while only 4 per cent fear that AI will eliminate more than half of their tasks at work.
Tasks that until recently were considered typically human are now supported or taken over by AI, the researchers say. To measure how the Flemish workforce feels about this development, they conducted a survey of a representative sample of 1,000 workers aged between 18 and 64.
55 per cent of the respondents said they do not use AI at work. Only 6 per cent use the technology on a daily basis. Men, young people and those with higher education are more likely to use AI than women, older people and those with less education.
Confidence in the new technology is high. 38 per cent trust the information AI provides them with, and 21 per cent even find it more productive to brainstorm with AI than with colleagues. Flemish workers also believe AI increases their productivity. 68 per cent estimate they are able to work faster, and 58 per cent believe it also improves the quality of their work.
Some were concerned about AI: 37 per cent fear the tools will be used to control employees more. 14 per cent experience more stress while using AI, and just 4 per cent fear that their job is threatened by the technology.
ChatGPT is by far the most widely used tool at work, followed by Microsoft's Copilot. AI is mostly used to translate texts, to look up targeted information or to write emails.
