Fortnite was most played video game in Belgium last year

Total sales of video games and gaming devices in Belgium generated 698 million euros last year, according to figures from the Video Games Federation Belgium (VGFB) and research firm Sparkers. Battle royale game Fortnite had the most active users in Belgium.
The figures were collected from hypermarkets, supermarkets, speciality shops and online shops and platforms. The survey covered sales of games, consoles, accessories like controllers, prepaid cards, subscriptions and in-game purchases. All of this generated 698 million euros for companies in 2024, 12 per cent more than in 2023.
According to David Verbruggen, general manager of VGFB, revenue from physical sales is about half that from digital downloads. “We also note that physical games or gift cards are bought more often during the end-of-year period,” he said. “A package under the Christmas tree of course looks nicer.”
Of all the games, football game EA Sports FC 25 (formerly FIFA) is the best-selling console game in Belgium. It precedes such crowd pleasers as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, EA Sports FC 24, Hogwarts Legacy and Grand Theft Auto V, which was released in 2013 but remains popular. In the top five best-selling PC games, GTA V ranks third, after Black Ops 6 and Helldivers 2.
The researchers also investigated the most played games on console and PC. In that list, the free-to-play Fortnite ranks first. It scored better than several Call of Duty titles, including Warzone, another free battle royale game.
Ghent-based Larian Studios, creator of the popular game Baldur's Gate 3, does not share sales figures. The game came out on top at most international and national gaming awards last year and has sold tens of millions of copies.
