Game Mania seeks buyer for 35 stores in Belgium and the Netherlands
The parent company of retail chain Game Mania sought and received protection from its creditors at the Antwerp Enterprise Court on Thursday. It will now look for a buyer for its 35 stores in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In a press release, Heroik announced that it was looking for a new buyer. Management cited the digitisation of the video games industry and the highly competitive retail landscape as the main reasons for the increasing pressure on the company's financial performance. The decision is said to have been taken with a view to maximising retention and employment.
Game Mania says it has already taken some initiatives that should facilitate finding a buyer, such as a shift to online, the launch of a new shop concept in Genk and an expansion of its product range.
During the search for a buyer, the 35 shops, of which 21 are in the Netherlands and 14 in Belgium, and the webshop will remain open as usual. The company, which specialises in gaming products, board games and pop culture merchandise, employs 165 people.
