Ghent voted best city in Europe for Erasmus exchange
Ghent has been named Erasmus Destination of the Year 2023 at an international conference, VRT reports. The city beat Padua, Toulouse, Valencia and Vienna to the title.
Thanks to good cooperation between universities and colleges in Europe, international students have found Ghent to be the ideal place for a semester abroad. "We have been voted the best destination to have a good Erasmus exchange," the University of Ghent says.
The international recognition helps to promote Ghent to European students looking to study abroad, according to UGent spokesperson Frederik De Decker. "There are 1,500 Erasmus students in Ghent every year, and now that could become more," he says.
The majority of students who choose Ghent come from Spain, followed by Germany, France and Poland. "We also have collaborations with countries such as Estonia and Sweden and now see larger groups coming from there," De Decker says.
