Hezbollah says Israeli forces tried to 'infiltrate' Lebanon
Hezbollah says it has foiled an attempt by Israeli troops to "infiltrate" Lebanon. Israeli infantry soldiers attempted to infiltrate the country through the southern Lebanese village of Odaisseh early Wednesday morning, Hezbollah said in a message on Telegram.
In the message, Hezbollah also said its forces "clashed" with the Israeli soldiers, inflicting casualties and forcing them to retreat. Hezbollah reportedly responded by targeting Israeli forces with rockets and artillery at three different points across the border.
For its part, Israel said there was heavy fighting in southern Lebanon and accused Hezbollah of "using the civilian environment and population as human shields to launch attacks".
The Israeli army has announced that it has launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon.
At least five Israeli strikes also hit Beirut's southern suburbs early on 2 October, according to a Lebanese security source. The Israeli military said it was targeting Hezbollah "terrorist targets" and had issued several evacuation orders.
More than a thousand people have been killed since a military escalation between Israel and Hezbollah began in mid-September. Overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it had launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon.
