Hind Ben Abdelkader first Belgian player in Chinese women’s basketball league

Brussels native Hind Ben Abdelkader will become the first Belgian player in the Chinese women’s basketball league. She will finish the season with the Chinese Shanxi Flame team.
The 29-year-old shooting guard had been without a club since the end of last season, after her contract with top Turkish side Galatasaray finished. Before that, she amongst others played for Poland's Kraków, Spain's Cadi La Seu, and the French teams Nice and Villeneuve d'Ascq, where former Belgian national coach Rachid Meziane was the coach at the time. She was also briefly active in the American WNBA league, with Indiana Fever in 2018.
Hind Ben Abdelkader played 22 matches for the Belgian Cats, the Belgian national women's basketball team, including at the 2022 World Cup in Sydney, Australia. At the end of 2023, she decided not to make herself available for the national team anymore.
China is currently fourth in the FIBA women's basketball world ranking, while Belgium holds the sixth place.
