Icons exhibition brings work of renowned photographer Steve McCurry to Brussels

An exhibition by photographer Steve McCurry opens in Brussels on Thursday. More than 100 images taken during his 40-year career will be on display.
Icons is a retrospective of the American’s career and includes some of his most famous shots, starting with the portrait of Sharbat Gula, an Afghan girl with green eyes. The image, taken in 1984, appeared on the cover of National Geographic magazine.
The scenography features videos of McCurry’s travels, and an audio guide recorded by the photographer himself adds context to the images and the people who appear in them.
“The Icons exhibition will offer the public an intimate and immersive journey into the photographic world of Steve McCurry,” the organisers said in a press release. It will take visitors “on a journey with people of different ages, cultures and origins, whom he has portrayed with surprising strength and naturalness”.
The retrospective opens on Thursday at 5 Grand Place. It was previously exhibited in Lisbon, Madrid, Mexico City, Chicago, Sydney and Melbourne.
